After the kids ate we suited them up and headed outside to begin our fun.... A baseball party cannot start without the singing of the National Anthem and lucky for me that I happen to be dear friends with someone who sings for the Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox. My good friend was happy to come and join the festivities and so it began... she sang and then the birthday boy threw out the first pitch as the crowd of kids cheered and heard, "Play Ball!" From there the kids took off in two teams (with adult captains of course) and went throughout our neighborhood on a Red Sox scavenger hunt. I made a preprepared list of items that they needed to get from our neighbors. Both teams had 40 min. to collect as many items as possible and the team who came back with the most items on the list was the winner! After the hunt the kids came in and played and game of knock down the cans-- with none other than one of the Red Sox sponsors, Coca Cola cans. Following this we snag happy birthday, had his Fenway cake and then opened presents. The kids each left with a baseball themed goodie bag that I made which included a box of cracker jacks, red sox silly bandz, Twizzlers and a baseball.
As far as decor.... well, lets just say b-u-d-g-e-t! For the whole party, soup to nuts I spend just under $300 dollars. Not bad for nearly 50 guests, decor, tableware, goodie bags, etc. To greet guests the front of the house was decorated the same way that Fenway Park is ... the welcome to Fenway sign and then I made the Red Sox championship flags to line out drive way the same way that they line Yawkey Way. On our lamp post I made street sign of the famous intersection of Yawkey Way and Van Ness St. I also made all of the interior banners-- concessions, play ball and Elijah's 6th birthday. I also made all the napkins rings for the silverware etc. Thinking on a budget, I got some artificial grass carpet from a local Lowes and cut it to make table runners for the concession stand, cake table and also for a little bathroom decor (of course we had to have lots of #19's around the house for Elijah's favorite Red Sox player, #19 Josh Beckett. --- Oh, it was also under the goodie bags too. I picked up some galvanized buckets at Target for $2.50 a piece and filled them with shelled peanuts and Twizzlers. I made the cake... the best that I could do for such an iconic place. The kids enjoyed the cake with their own Red Sox ice cream helmet sundae featuring non other than the Hood Red Sox ice cream 3 flavors. Hum.... what else.... Oh! inside the house in the main party room I also made the Green Monster (Fenway's famous scoreboard), Pesky's pole which stood from floor to ceiling and then to really make it special I spray painted ($5 a can- 1 can p/chair) three chairs... to regular green chairs and one red chair for the birthday boy--- his own Ted Williams seat!! (the only non-green chair in all of Fenway Park).
I think that is it... other than the Red Sox shirts that I made for myself and my 2 daughters.
I hope that you enjoy this peak into our party. It was a ball!
The invitation:
Table decor on a budget.... I tried for baseball shaped cups, but at over $1 a piece my budget was quickly dwindling. So, I got these clear junior sized cups and added baseball stickers and personalized each of them with the guests name which served double duty as a place card for the table as well. I ended up getting 25 cups and the stickers for $2.59!
I made these cute napkin rings to go along with the banner and overall theme

Goodie Bags! Each bag included: Cracker Jacks, Twizzlers, Red Sox Silly Bandz and a baseball
The Fenway cake I made

The bathroom needed a little Red Sox-ing up too! #19 for my sons favorite pitcher, Josh Beckett!
Birthday banner that I made.... got to love Publisher and my new Silhouette craft cutter!
More banner making and cutting with the Silhouette!
Out side the house to greet guests when they arrived-- our own Yawkey Way... complete with the street signs intersecting Yawkey and Van Ness.
Yeah for the Silhouette that helped me make all those numbers exactly!

The Green Monster... made on foam core board. Lots of cutting for my new machine!
The birthday boys seat... His own Ted Williams seat with Pesky's Pole (floor to ceiling) in the background

I got my son his own jersey for the day and had his number, 10 appliquéd on the back. Where did the lit up Boston B come from? The during our neighborhood scavenger hunt one of our neighbors had this on the side of his house and gave it to the kids for extra points as their "something with the Boston 'B' logo on it." LOVE IT!!!
